Lundy Island, Devon, UK
Oh where do we start with Marika & Sam’s wild wedding on Lundy Island? We’d already met these guys at Luke & Una’s wedding a couple of years ago. Marika was one of Una’s bridemaids so when we heard from her the following year asking us to travel with them to this wild rock off the Devon coast we were thrilled. They loved the style of documentary wedding photography that we’d provided for their friends and so we started making plans.
Marika & Sam know the island well and fell in love with it years ago and visit now as often as they can. It was the obvious place for them to get married.
The island is owned by The National Trust and managed by the Landmark Trust. The only full time residents are employees. There’s a pub, a shop a church and a few buildings to stay in. Apart from that it’s rocks and wild-life, including seals! And yes we saw loads of them, lucky us!
The day before we were to board the boat to travel the weather reports started coming in, hurricane heading to the UK and making landfall the next day! After a pretty rough and interesting crossing we landed on the island and the weekend kicked off complete with rain, fog, and a T-rex.
Thank you once again Marika & Sam for taking us along on your wild island adventure. We loved every minute on Lundy and we’ll almost certainly be back one day…
